An officer with the Regina Police Service (RPS) was forced to shoot a dog after it attacked a police k9 unit, according to the service. At around 5:40 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 11, officers responded to a home on the 300 block of Smith Street for a reported firearms offence. The caller told police two men were inside the home with guns and were not allowing anyone to leave. Police arrived at the scene, established a perimeter, and began to clear the home. While this was happening – a dog ran out of the house and began attacking a police service dog at the scene. An officer drew his gun and fired a shot – killing the attacking canine. The police service dog suffered minor injuries, according to police. RPS says its investigation is ongoing – offering no further details surrounding the incident.
