Dangerous wind chills of minus 40 or colder have prompted Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) to issue an extreme cold warning for Regina and much of southern Saskatchewan. According to ECCC’s website, the sub minus 40 wind chills are expected for the “next few days,” along with overnight lows in the minus 30 range. Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Yorkton, Weyburn and Estevan are also included in the warning that extends into Saskatoon and central Saskatchewan. Temperatures are expected to moderate for most by Thursday, ECCC says. “Snow pushing in from the United States will likely keep regions between the international border and the Trans-Canada Highway above extreme cold thresholds Tuesday morning. However, areas to the north, in the vicinity of the Yellowhead, will continue with the bitterly cold temperatures into Wednesday morning,” ECCC said on its website on Monday. Current advisories can be read here. Regina is expecting a high of minus 24 on Monday, according to ECCC’s morning forecast. The normal daytime high for Feb. 3 is about minus nine.
