Bernadette McIntyre was installed as Saskatchewan’s 24th Lieutenant Governor at the rotunda inside the legislative building on Friday afternoon. The Lieutenant Governor is the personal representative of the Sovereign in Saskatchewan and tasked with granting Royal Assent to Saskatchewan laws as well as summoning and dissolving the provincial legislature, the province said. It was announced that McIntyre would be the next Lieutenant Governor in December. She takes over for Russ Mirasty, who was installed in July 2019. McIntyre holds degrees in Economics and Business Administration with Great Distinction from the University of Regina and is highly regarded for her community service record, leadership and volunteerism, the province said in December. Before her installment as Lieutenant Governor, McIntyre was the CEO at the Wascana Centre Authority and also held senior positions with Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI). She also served on many boards of directors and planning committees, the province said in 2024.
